Problems with Photoshop 15

I have been using Photoshop 15 for quite a while now (only basic stuff). However, I am having problems with it. It just doesn't seem to be responding as well as it used to. I'm thinking it may be getting old (or my laptop is getting old) so it doesn't work as well. Does anyone have opinions about what would be a good app and capable of working on a Windows 10 laptop that is also probably 5 or 6 years old.

My first guess is that various programs have been added that are "running in the background" leaving less of the resources to run Photoshop Elements. Another guess is that your disk is filling up leaving less "work space" for your computer.

You have a good app for photo processing. You probably only need to get your computer a serious tuneup.

Sounds all reasonable. I did just get my laptop overhauled or updated. I'll look at the stuff running in the background but I don't typically add programs. I'll also look at how much memory (?) or space I have.
Thanks for your response.

If you don't mind spending some money, newer computers can be fast!

You seem a bit uncertain about the computer lingo. If you have Photoshop Elements 15, your laptop should have at least 16 gigabytes of RSM memory and a hard drive that’s less than 3/4 full. If you have limited RAM memory, the computer uses hard drive space to swap data in and out. You might be pushing it to its limit.

If your system is older that 2015, you should consider an upgrade. If you can, be sure you have an nvme drive as your primary drive, and if you can increase memory to 16-32gb. Older processors have few threads and cores, so this will definitely effect performance. Also, be sure you are using the latest version of windows 10, and pro is best.
Lastly, look at your task manager, and insure your are starting up applications at boot that are only absolutely neccessary.
Good luck!

I agree with Mike about checking Task Manager to see what is starting up when you freshly boot your laptop. That is, the laptop must be turned off completely and not just put to sleep by closing the lid. Also, run a registry and disk cleaner such as the Wise Free versions I mentioned in a prvious note just now. --Richard

I haven't had the time to go through the various processes you've all suggested but I will. I thank you all for your suggestions.
