Was the latest school shooting in Michigan preventable? Wasn't a medal detector mandated a while back to prevent guns from being brought into the schools? Aren't parents being held accountable? Why is this now becoming a common place occurrence?

Maybe he (Ethan Crumbley) got sick and tired of being called "crummy Crumbley"
and went berserk.

Metal detectors are not required in all schools. However, with that said, yes this one was preventable. He told people what he was going to do. The primary person he threatened stayed home because he feared for his safety. Unfortunately no one turned the kid in to authorities until it was too late.

That and he had an irresponsible dad who had just bought a gun and did not lock it up. So, yes, it was preventable.

There are lots of reasons it is becoming commonplace. However, you should note that it isn't that much more common than in the past, it is just much more published than before. One of the main reasons it is happening is we have failed to teach kids how to properly use and respect guns. We have failed to teach kids to respect others. And, we have taken guns out of the hands of teachers and other school personnel. Shoot, when we were in school everyone had at least one gun in the gun rack in the back of their unlocked pickup at school, but nobody would have dared use one because we all knew that most of the school staff were armed and knew how to shoot, and we knew that everyone else had a gun too.

With all that said you might be interested to note that school deaths are actually down from where they were in the early 90s.

https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/youthviolence/schoolviolence/savd.html

There is a graph part way down the story that shows school deaths by year from 1992 to 2016. You will note that the two highs on the graph are in 1992 and 2006. The one big change is that a higher percentage of the violent deaths involve multiple deaths, but that there are fewer total instances of violent death. In fact, 2016, the last year on the report was well below the average deaths per year. So, much of what you are seeing is actually perception, and not necessarily fact.

Because we are becoming a sick, demented, me only society. Years ago, institutions, like churches and businesses, including entire villages and cities, including public officials, spoke out against this kind of behavior. That kind of leadership is missing, due to selfishness, politics, cowardice, MYOB, or some other ideology that is allowing this Nation to go to Hell in a breadbasket.

Waymond,
I completely agree with you. Add to that that lack of God fearing people who live as they should.

I wish they would post a graph of gun deaths at school vs. teens dying from drunk driving/drivers and drugs. It will dwarf shootings.

I shoot with a camera and haven't k**led anyone yet! I just doesn't matter how many were k**led in the past. Just too many easily available guns. As I say this, I support hunting and sport shooting. No one needs a semi-automatic or large magazines. Shooting with camera's doesn't k**l people, shooting with a gun does. Simple, simple fact.

Preventable? I think yes if we take people off video games that k*****g people is fun. You noticed that most of the shooting the guy who did the shooting didn't do it out of greed but more out of fun.

How many gas pedals and empty bottles of beer. Dead soldiers. Ya. It just doesn't matter how many are k**led in the past. Unless you are one of the dead or the family of those left behind. Maybe just maybe if family life and respect for one another was taught at home and in school from the early stages, some of the k*****g would end. I agree its the photographer that takes the photo not the camera. It simply the weapon.

We're not looking back along the chain of events for the real reasons for these atrocities. The drive from the far left for "political correctness", the new "modern" way to raise children with "time outs" taking away their phones or denying them their video games and other such i***t ways of punishment are the real culprits. In the entire history of the world the standard punishment for unruly children was getting their ass beat off when they did bad things. It taught them real early that there were consequences for bad behavior. Now , you swat a child in a store for throwing a tantrum for a toy the nearest "do gooder" left wing ding bat is calling the cops and the CPS. I got my first real gun (a shotgun) when I was 11 years old, and I knew if I carried it outside I or loaded it in the house I wouldnt sit down for a week, and I never, ever thought about taking it anywhere but where I could use it safely in the proper setting.
