Had an appointment in the city. Weather report suggested "Significant blowing and drifting snow" where I live about the time I'd be returning. No such forecast for Billings. Brought my parka, gloves and the best snow car we have, my Wife's AWD SUV. Don't much like driving it, but it made sense. Turns out the Weather Report didn't. Clear sailing both ways. I brought the D2x with AF S 18-140 1:3.5 5.6 g ED. Just a couple of photos amid the hubbub, a pano and a picture of the place where the clouds and mountains meet.

Thanks! Out here driving in bad weather can be a lot more than inconvenient. What is really amusing is Weather Channel sent me a feedback request today and I repeated the story. I had already replaced their link on my desktop with Weather Underground.

More good work, QD. This is the way that a bad winter forecast should go.

Nice pics Quix, the local weather report is always over cautious.

Having grown up in Wyoming, I learned pretty quick to be prepared for heavy weather. Back then we didn't have AWD, it was either 4X4 or not. Good tires and chains, appropriate clothing for bad conditions was a must. I had these in the backseat all the time. Not really great for a date, but I could get my guy home. I have a good story about blizzards going to Cheyenne for a time later.

Must admit, delighted. Though stripping the parka down to a shell was a PITA.

Thanks! I almost wonder if it wasn't just a bad joke. The radar didn't support the forecast. Certainly pleased it worked as it did.

Last year, my son and daughter in law, even with a highly capable Winter / Off Road vehicle and all sorts of gear got caught in a blizzard crossing Wyoming to Colorado after a visit. As with many adjacent states, they just close the highways. We were able to figure out where they were on the computer and make a Motel reservation at a place that takes dogs. Sometimes technology is grand.

Weather forecasters. We rely on them so much. Amazing that someone can be wrong 50% of the time and still keep their job.

Looking good! Taking an inch off as recommended sounds good too!

I keep extra clothing in my car whenever I go out since I can't trust the forecast.

I need to put my winter gear in my car.
