There may be studies, and not just someone's impression, that show a correlation between an interest in skill and technique vs. how often people think about equipment based on how long they have been doing photography, even assuming one can put a date on it. Isn't it more likely that an appreciation of optical, ink, and electronic technology is independent of the level of devotion to learning the craft and artistic uses of photography? Aren't these considerations more a reflection an individual's interests and aptitudes rather than which class of people someone is judged to fall into? I think these things as independent of each other. But it does lend a reason to apply a sort of identity politics in an area in which someone already has skills, owns great gear, and even makes a living with both.

F8 1/250 and be there. But then Weegee seemed to do ok with the “primitive” equipment available at the time no?
