Susan,
Glad you are trying. Make sure that you are not getting mixed up with flash compensation which you can adjust on the back of the flash ( or within the camera) and manual mode. Don't know if your flash offers it but on my Canon Flash which is a 580 EX 11 you can change the mode on the back of the flash from ETTL to manual. IF you can do that, change to manual and then you can change the flash power. That is totally diffferent than flash compensation which is done in the ETTL mode...I am sure this is confusing. Hope this helps and good luck.

I think that is what I am doing Steve. I am not familiar with the ETTL mode at all. On my 430EX11, on the back, I have it set to manual (M) at 1/1 (full power) normally. By pressing on the center button on the back of the flash, the 1/1 flashes and I can press to the right or left of the center button to increase/decrease power. Of course at full power, I can only go down and it does so by - 0.3 on the first push, second push - 0.7, third push I'm at 1/2 power, then can keep stepping down all the way to 1/64 power. If this doesn't make sense or you think I'm on the wrong track, let me know. Thanks for all of the time you are spending on this.
Wow! I'm so glad they don't get much larger :-)
