I was walking to my car after shooting some sunsets and still had my camera in hand. Deciding to see what a really high ISO would look like, I cranked it up to ISO 10000. The SOOC camera RAW file was noisy, but showed some promise. Using DXO Pure Raw for pre-processing and Topaz Denoise AI, I think the final image is pretty useable.

I remember shooting weddings with a D3S and being happy to catch low light images at 4000-5000 ISO. Camera sensors have come a long way.

Very nice, Bill.
I have both Topaz DeNoise (latest version) and DxO Pure Raw. With each update, to either, I run a few photos through both to check which is better. Consistently, DxO wins in my opinion. It's really amazing and has save many of my high ISO photos. I have some well above 10000 and DxO took out 80% of the noise - then I took out the rest with Affinity Photo.

Wow! I gotta get me one of them! The next time you do this, shoot the scene at ISO 10,000 and 400 as a comparison.

Elliott - I usually run every image thru Pure Raw, and then into Photoshop. The only times I finish them off with DeNoise AI is if they're still a bit noisy.

Thanks Jerry. My suggestion is download the free trial of both, and run a few images through them. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Also, I'll try to remember to do a comparison.

I don't see anything about a free trial on DxO, but I'll keep looking. For $70 - well, I don't know.

EDIT: Okay, I found the free trial.

wolfMark - I know what you mean. I kind of took the shot on a lark, with no real expectations that it would work out at all.

WOW! It almost makes me wish I was a post-processor.
