Female Mallard Duck showing off the feather patterns that allow her to virtually disappear in reeds and grass when she is on her nest in the shadows.
Here she is resting in the shade on a small manmade island in a park pond at the Riverwalk Parkway in Riverside CA. 03/02/17 in early afternoon

hand held at aprx. 10' from an observation platform

Thanks, the birds at the Riverwalk are used to people - and they are always hopeful the people will ignore the "Do Not Feed" sign. The people who really care and think take cracked corn or birdseed (when I took my wife as part of photography lessons she took a quart ziploc of my premium bird feed - no stall bread.)
