This was the start of my not even organized project to seek out the beauty in the patterns and textures in the feathers of "plain looking single color birds".
I went back to my OOC image and reprocessed it in the latest versions of LrC, PS and Topaz AI. It is a small bird and a major crop so I am at the point where the image starts to pixelate.
The bird was perched on a wire in an area already in shade at 4PM on 10/30/16 in my backyard in Corona, CA. I was using a 1.4x on my lens so even with fill flash the image was underexposed because the widest I could get was f/8.0 and I had to correct in PP.
7DII, 100-400L mk2+1.4 III @ 560, 1/250 @ f/8.0, ISO-400
hand held at about 20-25 feet.

A really good example of the beauty of feathers. I agree, there is a lot of beauty in the patterns of birds' feathers.
Even a single feather can have a beauty of its' own.

Thanks, and yes some individual feathers are lovely.
You’ve made a very good point. This is a gorgeous little bird!
