Well, with nothing much to do and having all day to do it, I pass time swatting flies and this was one of them that tempted its fate this afternoon. I whacked it just hard enough to stun it and I put it in a pill bottle for a few moments in the gas chamber and then for a focus stacking session.

I staged this session using a 50mm enlarger lens forward position mounted on a bellows extended to a length that allowed this fly to fit the frame of the camera.

Thanks, UTMike. When there is little to nothing to be found, I can always count on a housefly to "volunteer" to be one of my subjects. I'm getting fairly good at swatting them without squishing some of them. I'm able to salvage about one in every four or so and the ones that pester me will receive no mercy.
