I agree, and once stated that opinion in your first clause to my doctor. He added the second part, for my benefit, I guess. Actually, my grandpa did pass peacefully in his sleep, an enviable event. As is said, everybody wants to go to a heaven, but nobody wants to die to get there. When Grandpa woke up, there he was! No trauma necessary.

Actually my grandfather did die "peacefully" in his sleep, but it was in his favorite rocking chair, with one of his favorite TV shows playing quietly in the background.
I can't force myself to believe in heaven and hell, but my grandad had a full and happy life, and I like to think that when he closed his eyes for the last time, he was dreaming of something beautiful.
