A cable insulator for a power pole - I have a crate of them, but all glass. This one probably more collectible.

Looks more like an insulator found in an old house/garage with knob & tube wiring.

Maybe so, there was a shack I took down that had similar. Must have been an early adopter of electricity. I will say there were a lot of little white porcelain two piece clamp insulators.

I've seen both....
Never paid attention to the age of the houses.
Just know they preceded BX cable and Romex.

The two piece clamp type maybe newer as they were probably faster to install than wrapping anchor twists around the one shown in the OP.

It's a relic from the electrical wiring days referred to as "knob and tube" and they were also used around the farm for stock control wiring. Anyone who has ever grabbed on to a "Stock-Shock" fence knows exactly what they are.
