I started accumulating parts for this in May, and it isn't finished yet. It's been an on-again, off-again project, but it's nearing completion. I'm having trouble with the nut for the 8-string part, and I'll have to re-do that. I could buy a finished one (Ortega Hydra) for $400, but how much fun is that?

WOW!!!!! Nice work Jerry. I am very impressed.
Your post reminds me that each of us is truly a stranger to the rest of us. Just as some think they know all about me and really haven't a clue, I know nothing about anybody else here as well. We only see what each of us posts and that is a very limited amount into each other's lives.
You have shown us very fine work. What type of wood was used for the front and back?
Dennis
Looks like mahogany. Nice work, Jerry.

That is a very interesting project. Looks like you have it fully organized - You have a real talent on display!
Love your homemade clamps, If you don't mind I might just copy them. By the way very nice work.

Jerry, I had no idea you did this is your "spare" time. Quite an accomplished work you have there. Congratulations!!

Thanks, and I know what you mean about not really knowing each other.
The front and sides are mahogany from Stewart-MacDonald. The back is birch from Amazon.

Thanks. I could have bought a set, but it was cheaper and more enjoyable making them out of a dowel. It's very time consuming, though. Still, what's the rush.

Thanks. I feel guilty if I'm not working on something, and cleaning the house doesn't count. Over the summer, I built a nice router table - which I've used only once, to trim the sides on this uke. It's the journey, not the destination. : )

Thanks. Every project is a learning experience.

Nice project. A lot of skill involved. Jimmy Page would love to have that.
