A Mourning Dove in extremely warm late afternoon sunlight. A dove's gray feathers can take on different color casts depending on the light. In this case very warm late afternoon sunlight has brought out browns for an overall warm look.

This is part of an on going project of mine to record the patterns and textures of feathers, esp. birds that at first glance look all one color.
Canon 5DIV, 100-400L mk2 @ 400, 1/1000 @ f/8.0, ISO-640

Hand held from a blind at about 30' in April 2020 in my backyard in Corona, CA. I went back to the OOC and reedited it in the latest versions of my PP apps.

Great shot! It opens a whole new source of targets when we stop and realize how beautiful even the most common of sights can be. I've got some shots of sparrows, finches, starlings, doves, pigeons, mallards, etc that I've taken while looking for something 'exciting' and then later marvel over simply because it takes a visual reminder like this to show me I'll never run out of great subjects, even if the pileated woodpeckers and bald eagles do tend to hide from me. 👍

A lot of the "plain" birds are completely different when you take a close look at feather patterns, colors and tectures.
