Just treaded myself to a new OLED TV. Installed it and connected to my cable box as was the previous tv,when ever a socket or light switch in the house was used the tv would flash and go off for a second and then come back on,I got rid of the fluorescent fittings in the cellar because that seemed the worse, but it was still there,I tried plugging into another circuit and still there,I was going to call an electrican in because maybe a fault with the electrics,as a last resort I thought I would change the HDMI cable from the box to the tv.and presto all worked fine, the new cable is marked 4K HIGH SPEED. The old one just marked HDMI so there is a difference ,make sure you lol use the correct cable, hope this may help someone out with same problem. Allan.

That is very interesting. Never knew there was a difference or types of HDMI. Now I will have to go look closer. Thanks for the clue.

Thanks for the info.. In that situation, I would have never looked at that. I would have called an electrician. Thanks again.

I have a drawer full of HDMI cables. The trouble is that I don't remember which ones I had problems with. I should have thrown the bad ones away. It's a crapshoot with these things. Some are flimsy and break inside. Some don't seem to fit the sockets well, and the picture goes in and out with touching or moving the cable. If you look at the reviews of the many that are on Amazon, the biggest complaint is that they don't have the bandwidth that is advertised. In other words, 4K cables may not transmit 4K video.

I've had good luck with these, but they are STIFF with all of that metal shielding on the outside.

In the UK we have a cable co Virgin Media,(Richard Branson) I have been a customer for about 20 years,3years ago they gave me a new box ,old one becoming obsolete,I connected it up programmed it and all was fine,I used the cables from the old box,the new box came with cables but I just plugged the old ones in,everything was fine until I bought the new tv,4K Oled.thans when the trouble started, the old cables would not support 4K oled, the cables that came with the new box are 4K high speed, connected up no more problems.

While most of the above responses seem to hint that a more expensive HDMI cable is better than a cheaper one, there is another side of the story. See...

I think it comes down to quality of construction. When the connection becomes intermittent and you can't fix it by plugging the cable in securely, then there is something wrong inside of the cable. This has happened to me several times. I don't claim that the cable I use and mentioned is the right one for everyone or that there weren't negative reviews on Amazon for it (not many), but it has worked for me.

As an old bench technician, I can tell you how to never let that happen.
Here is what I was taught early on.
Whenever you have a cable, test lead, power cord or whatever that you have determined is defective, do not keep it or stow it away.
Cut it in half and discard it. It will save you much grief and heartache down the road.

Good and useful information, but personally, if turning lights on and off affected your TV at all, (even if a different cable "cured" it), I would still consult a qualified electrician for his (or her) opinion. That just shouldn't happen.

As a chartered Electrical Engineer now retired I cannot see how an HMDI cable could pick up the spike in the electrical supply of turning on and off of a light fitting or a plug socket, bear in mind s the spike would be miniscule

Exactly what I was thinking! Maybe the outlet he is using is wired to the lighting circuit?
