My first "real" camera was a Graflex Speed Graphic 4X5 with a polaroid back. I sold it a long time ago. My first 35mm camera was a Minolta srT 101. I sold it to buy my first Canon, an AE-1, which I still own, along with an AE-1P and my favorite pre-digital camera, my Canon A-1. Still have it and it still works. My 1st "real" digital camera was a Sony Mavica CD 300 I bought in the spring of 2001. Still have it and it still works. My first 35mm DSLR was a Canon EOS 10D. Still have it and the last time I tried it, it still worked. I still have my Canon EOS 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 60D, 70D, 80D and 90D. I bought the 30D and 40D after I bought the 70D, just to make the collection complete at the time. They both work fine but I didn't use them all that much. I bought the 80D on the first day it was available in the USA. I have several more Canon crop and full frame DSLR'S, including a 5DSr and a 5D mk IV. There's also my Nikon D7200, D500 and D850. Currently my only MILC is a Canon M50. I almost bought a Canon R5 but decided not to.

I received my first camera, a Canon t4i) as a Christmas gift from my hubby in 2017. I was 67 years of age. It took me till March 2018 to gather up the nerve to start playing with it. I was so intimidated. I have since added an 80D but still use the t4i a lot. I’ve been thinking I’d like to try full frame so have purchased (from here on UHH) an old Canon 1DS and am just beginning to play with it some. It’s really cool and I think I will want a newer (and lighter) full frame for macro.

My first was a Pentax K1000, still have it, though the light seals are getting bad, and the meter sticks. I would like to get it fixed, if possible

I couldn’t find film for the Brownie a couple of years ago, so I got a few Nikons (yes, that is really me).

The first real camera I ever used was a Nikomat for journalism school. The first one I ever owned was a Canon FTb. It is still around, somewhere.

I amazed at what is regarded as real cameras - surely a pin-hole in a cardboard box is also a real camera?

Have no pic. It was a Konica Autoreflex T with a 50mm f1.4 lens. Bought it when I was 17 from a store in NYC, somewhere on the East Side in the 40’s. Can’t remember the name, but it was on the second floor and I really felt like a wannabe Ansel Adams when I went there. Really wanted a Nikon, but just couldn’t afford even the lower end Nikkormat. Loved the Konica. Learned a lot about the basics of photography with it. It finally needed work that I wasn’t willing to pay for and I donated it to a college to use in their photography program. Thanks for the opportunity to wander down memory lane.

I suppose you are technically correct. My very first camera was a Kodak 126 instamatic, no focus, no settings, all you could do was put a flash cube on it (or not) point, and push the button.
I don't consider it a "real" camera since you could not control any of the settings.

From 12 years old, I was the family photographer with a Kodak Signet 40. Still have it, the glass is still clean, still shoots very sharp photos, but the shutter speeds below 1/200th are sticky.
First SLR? Sears TLS. It went to the bottom of the Peace River in Florida when a friend who borrowed it tipped his canoe over. He felt so bad about it, he gave me his Tilt-all tripod, which I still use. Years after the canoe incident, I was travelling through Georgia and visited a photographer friend. He showed me his cabinet of gear, and there, on a shelf, was a dusty Sears TLS. When I told him that had been my first camera, but was lost, he gave me his; still have it in my gear cabinet.

No. LONG time ago.

Started with the family folding camera. Then I got my own Brownie. My first REAL camera was a 35mm Kodak (don't recall the model). Age 10. Still have some slides I took with it.

When I got serious about photography I got an Exakta (probably traded in the Kodak) and had a friendly competition with another kid who got a Leica, then a Crown Graphic, then a Speed Graphic. Borrowed a digital camera around 1995, bought one in 1999. It broke, got another. Then got a DSLR 2005, upgraded that, upgraded that, upgraded that.

Do you still use it?

Early on I couldn't afford a big name brand so started off with this Ricoh. No regrets. The Ricoh KR-10M served it's purpose and was a great little camera. I haven't used it for decades but I'm going to give it a run sometime soon.
The KR-10M had quite good specification for the time. The kit lens pictured was also a reasonable performer.

(Photo below taken on my phone. Phones are good for stuff like this!)

Do you still own your first real/serious camera? (... (show quote)

NO, long long gone. These were my first two
