Got my first raptor - a common European Kestrel and a few other birds. I would appreciate some constructive criticism. I sort of like the Kestrel but still felt the two shots were a bit soft and the sky too blue - opinions are welcomed. The Snowy Egret I struggled with. The exposure I could not quite get the detail I would have liked.

The Kestrel shots are outstanding! I've never been able to get a good going away shot of a bird in flight.

Nice sharp images. Egrets are notoriously hard to expose correctly.

A beautiful and interesting set of images. #1 Kestrel could be easily fixed by editing to desaturate/lighten the too blue sky.
The bird itself is lovely with a great pose, eye and detail. It's a little oversaturated too to my eye but that's just a matter of taste.
I think you did a good job of exposing the Egret and just need to lighten the shadows to balance the photo.
For real control over single subject exposure use center spot metering if you have time to set it up.
That snowy plumage is tough to get right. Maybe a little sharpening on the bird itself as a final touch.
Nicely done!

A beautiful and interesting set of images. #1 Kest... (show quote)

Thanks for your comments - I am going to have to spend time learning how to edit. I have windows 10 and Nikon capture 2 which I have not been able to figure out the Windows 10 is very basic and works some images but not on all.Getting to grips with metering is also an aim. Matrix is my setting at the moment.

These are good shots, nicely captured and framed. Generally, pictures of birds from behind and/or flying away are not included for presentation.
