New stack with 2 new bits of kit

Some of the gear I use needed repair, so during the downtime I made myself a better lifter out of the adjustment parts of 2 microscopes, and a universal rotation stage out of a maritime lamp holder. The latter is very interesting because it means that I can keep things in focus whilst I rotate or angle them. There's a photo of it in the comments under this pic, which is a new stack I did today using this stuff :)

Excellent stack, and your explanatory set-up photograph is interesting:

Yeah, that's what I meant by a rotation stage thing - it's the thing in the centre. It also rotates round on a pin under the base. And the thing holding the pin is actually a magnet so that can also rotate. That's 4x360 rotation. So I can basically get to any angle without refocusing.

The microscope stage is literally a microscope base, with extra coarse adjustment track glued in with araldite (ie double Y movement), and the arms of the slide slider removed, but a bit of plexi glued onto it (araldite is my friend). So that in effect makes another stage (X,Z), this time at the specimen end.

At the camera end there's a bellows (Z), a Velbon (Z,X) and stackshot (Z).

Flexibility is good :)

Excellent stack. I've done a few with a Velbon x/y focusing rail, but don't have Stackshot, or a bellows so I essentially am limited to 1:1. Love your DIY inventiveness. I was a machinist in a former life-- but no longer have access to the equipment.

I would give my left testicle to have access to some decent machining tools, all I have is Araldite ( two-part epoxy adhesive) and a drill :)

Wowzer. That's rather amazing. Makes me feel like a bit of a dumb bunny.

Not getting the other one either :)

But seriously, a machine shop would be something to dream of. And the other area would be electronic skills. For example my 720 degree rotation thing, it would have been super nifty to have had each of the 4 rotations controllable by remote control. Having that inside a chill cage... wow, luxury :)
