I admire the guys photography but have to comment on his stupidity on photographing on live rail tracks does he realise how long it takes a speeding train to stop.

In defense I feel the need to say, firstly the model is obviously not "on" the track because the train that is moving is in that location. Secondly I'm pretty sure that with the years of experience that the photographer has under his belt he would know the location he's chosen, and not put either of them in any danger. And thirdly, even if they were on the track (which they obviously weren't), no matter how fast the train was traveling, they would have heard it with plenty of time to move to safety. (have you ever heard how loud a moving train is)? I'm all in favor of safety, but I think in this case your post is a bit unnecessary, and really just a dig at a talented photographer. Sorry, but I call it like it is.

In refernace to KindaSpikey comment in the UK freight trains travel up to 75 mph, passenger trains up to 125 mph unless you live in Kent where the Eurostar travel at 195 mph and when HS2 is completed trains will travel up to 200 mph .

I have photographed trains for 50 years and never hand and never would trespass on live tracks

Sorry John but I think you completely missed the first 2 points I made, and even to address the 3rd point, it's still relevant. The train would be heard with plenty of time to get out of the way. Maybe a 4th point, the photographer is not in the UK, so quoting the speeds over there, although interesting, have no bearing whatsoever on the photoshoot over here. This is a pointless argument and I see no reason to persue it.

Good for you. No trespassing is a good policy unless you want a photograph that’s available only ‘in there’. I’ve ‘trespassed’ so many times I couldn’t even count. The only time I’ve had even a little hassle was when I parked my car in a gray area spot that may or may not have been illegal.

Each and every time I’ve done such a thing all I’ve ever taken away was the light that was reflecting off of the forbidden place. I’ve never broken anything to gain access, never taken anything out save whatever I brought in with me, and never left anything behind. The few times I’ve been confronted by anyone, property owner or police come to mind, I’d just explain that I’m only photographing. If they push the issue, I just leave. It’s never escalated beyond that.

And what the hell do I care or need to know about the speed of trains in the UK? I’ve ridden trains in Europe and the UK and they seemed just about like the domestic trains I’ve been doing injustice to for most of my life. No more accusations of international trainspotting, please.

(Not to belabor the points that KindaSpikey already made, but you got me on a Monday morning, so, ya.)

... Sorry, just 1 more point I'd like to make. You mentioned trespassing on "live tracks". I'm not sure if you're aware, or if it's what you meant, but of course in the UK there is the "3rd rail" which carries the power for the trains. If you look at the pictures here, you will see that is not the case. In this instance the power would be overhead for electric trains, or else they are self propelled. So again, no danger there either.

To Kinda Spikey when I use the term live tracks I mean tracks that trains run and are in daily use, as for trespassing on the tracks there are three or four deaths a month in the UK from people not using their common sense and not venturing on to the railway tracks

If you took the time to read my post, you would have seen that I said, not sure if you were aware, or if it was even what you meant. As for the the deaths on railways, I'm sorry to hear that, it's very sad. But something else I pointed out, this is the USA, NOT the UK. And again, I really see no point in continuing this discussion, so if I no longer take part, no offense is intended.
