Red-breasted sapsucker sucking my trees dry?

Love seeing these birds they are so colorful but the hundreds of sap wells all around the trunks of my cherry trees & maple trees have me worried about their health...what do you think ? A real problem? Oh well enjoy the pic!

They are protected. But...https://extension.psu.edu/do-woodpeckers-damage-your-trees there are things you can do.

Uh oh...that is what I was afraid of...I'm in the city limits, would be hard to do & I really don't want to either....but my trees are important.

Check the link. Burlap probably wouldn't be either too unsightly or expensive.

Thanks Joe! They are gorgeous birds...I realized that 99% of my pics are all the same pose! If I could just get them to fly...but I get dizzy going round & round the tree trunk trying to scare them into flight holding the camera to my eye.!!
