Tom was so excited about his promotion to Vice President of the company he worked for and kept bragging about it to his wife for weeks on end.

Finally, she couldn't take it any longer, and told him, "Listen, it means nothing, they even have a vice president of peas at the grocery store!"

"Really?" he said. Not sure if this was true or not, Tom decided to call the grocery store.

A clerk answers and Tom says, "Can I please talk to the Vice President of peas?"

The clerk replies, "Canned or frozen?"

A few years back, I was working for CitiBank in NYC. Like many employees, I rode a bicycle to work. For us, Citibank set aside a storage room for our bikes. However, to gain access to the room, you needed to fill out a form, which had to be approved by a Senior Vice President ---- because, apparently, an ordinary Vice President wasn't good enough to authorize me to store my bicycle in a room whose entire purpose was to store bicycles.

Stop and think back. Were you the only one who needed Senior Vice President approval?

No. The form definitely said it must be signed by an SVP or above.

I worked in a lab many decades ago. I needed a wastebasket. Wastebaskets were office equipment and had to be approved by someone far higher than I was. My boss could not approve it, nor his boss. It went WAY up.

I found a convenient box.

Funny, but not totally surprising.
