Recommendations for a comfortable sling strap for my D500 with the 200 - 500 lens? I've been using a MOVO chest harness and I've been told in the field that the over the shoulder strap is more convenient and not as hard on the back and neck. Comments appreciated.
I have the cotton carrier vest for my Canon 77D and my Tamron 150-600 and love it
Check out Cotton Carrier. They have a wide variety of straps and vests.

I used an
Optech for my Sony alpha full frame. Worked great. Just grab the camera and whip it into position for a shot. I liked it so much that ibought a smaller one for a Nikon Coolpix for travel.
I agree the sling is faster to get to but camera and long lens bounce around more. I think with the vest adjusted right and some practice you can get the shot pretty quick
A PEAK Design Slide stap is Great for my D500 mated to My Tamron 150-600mm G2! No bouncing around either! About 65 usd !!!

I use the Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap for my Sony A7 III--the body is about the same size as the Nikon D500. I use it with all kinds on lenses, including the Sony 100-400mm. It is long enough to wear crossbody, even if you are not skinny. It is comfortable to wear, and the strap does not slip and move around. It also is easy to take it off, which I typically do when I shoot in busy urban areas.
I like it so much that I also bought a smaller Peak Design Leash Camera Strap, which is smaller and lighter and works great if you use smaller lenses.
Thanks all for the advice. I'm leaning toward the Peak Design slide or slide light. They are costly, but get great reviews.

Another vote for Sling Strap.

When I wear my Peak Designs Slide strap cross body I get virtually no bouncing around.

This is for a camera body with raised lugs - not the cross body strap for DSLRS and Mirrorless.

I also use a Peak Design strap. Love mine.
