My favorite "go to" computer for photo processing

First of all, I am a hobbyist, not a pro.
My computers are 2 mid2011 21.5 iMac's running High Sierra.
Lenovo P330 desktop running Win 11
Lenovo P1 Gen2 Thinkpad runningWin 11
Older HP 8200 elite running Win 10.
My iMac FAVORITE has 500g SSD and 16g memory. I run Aperture 3.6 with Nik, Luminar and PTLens plugins.
Also use Affinity Photo.
It handles Raw from my 3 cameras (Sony A6000, Lumix ZS100, Leica V-Lux typ114)
It is by far the easiest to use selecting paper ICC profiles for my Canon printer..(Photos does not) and is much easier than Photoshop.
I like its organization the best.
I do not care about the latest, etc, security....I use my Windows machines on line for that.
So I know I will get comments, but I am very satisfied with my "old" iMac's. They serve me well.

If your happy with your setup, great. Keep on doing what makes you happy. No need for justification!

I'm very satisfied with my 8 year old HP desktop and 8 year old Toshiba laptop, each running Win 7.

My "organization" is my mind and File Explorer.

Years ago, more than ten, a techy friend of mine built a computer for me. As parts deteriorated he would show me how to change them. It's not a big deal , most have little pins that fit into sockets. He told me to take take of it myself and if I ran into trouble he would help. He passed away a couple of years ago. But my computer hasn't. I've upgraded it many times. I just installed a 11th generation processor and one tb of memory. I'm still running Windows 7 and not going to change that. If I had my way I would run DOS but there isn't much going there

My 2013 MacBookPro is in great shape and it works great, but the latest version of Photoshop (PS) won’t use the graphic processor because it doesn’t have enough memory in the GPU. PS has slowed to a crawl. Additionally the 2013 Mac con’t run the latest macOS. I like to keep my software up to date. It was time for a new computer. I ordered the new 16” MacBookPro last month, it’s due to arrive mid-late December. After the new Mac arrives, the old 2013 Mac is going back to Apple for trade in credit.

I’m glad you are happy with your setup. Keep using it until you cant.

I use my iPad Pro with the Mi chip and 16 gigs of Ram with a stylus and Lightroom mobile as the last step in my workflow. Works out pretty well. My eyes like having it right there in my hand. The iPad iOS and inability to truly calibrate the screen are limiting.
My initial import from memory card goes to my 2013 MacBook Pro and Lightroom Classic. I prefer that for the heavy lifting (batch editing) and catalog organization.
I have a 2021 MacBook Pro back ordered from B&H. Interested to see if I can successfully use the iPad with a stylus as a second screen with the new MacBook.

I am considering the Lenovo P1 Gen x - it has an NVIDIA GPU, RTX 3xxx/4xxx. If you are a user of Topaz SW (DeNoise, Sharpen, etc.), have you found it performing faster on the Lenovo P1 than on older computers with an older (or no) GPUs?

I run Topaz SW on my Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 5 - no separate GPU, only integrated video card. Sharpen (especially) is quite slow.

I use Topaz denies on my Lenovo's. Using the graphics processor is much faster than older pc's

You're going to love your new Mac. I just got the 14" last week. It is a bit bigger and heavier than my old 13", but, the screen is bigger, it has more memory, doesn't get hot, the battery lasts a LOT longer, got rid of the stupid "touch bar" for real buttons, returns to mag-safe charging, and returns the SD slot so I don't need a stupid dongle to download images. The screen has higher resolution, and uses mini led technology. Needless to say, I am very pleased with it.

I also have a 27" iMac I almost never use. I just like the portability thing.

Thanks! Yes it's good Apple finally decided to make a real MacBook Pro Again rather than a cheese slicer that can also double as a computer. My 2013 has all those features and that's one of the reasons I chose to make the jump for the new one.

My first one was a 2013 also--I loved it, but ir suffered some damage and was too expensive to repair, ao i got the 2018 I just traded in. Much prefer those older features they have revived.
