If money were no object and you were vacillating between these two, which would you pick?
D6 - no interest in adapters or an additional type of lens mount. Fact of the matter is neither, quite satisfied with current gear and it will do what I ask of it very nicely.

This is a no brainer. The Z9. I predict it won't be long before the loud clatter of the mirrors in DSLRS will be banned from press conferences and other indoor events. They're already talking about this for golf tournaments.
I think that the only reason to buy old technology is that it may still meet your needs and you can generally get a bargain on it. The Z9 is cheaper than the D6. That argument goes out the window.
Don't let a mirror stand between you and success.

Yeah, but if money is no object you can just get all new lenses while you're at it.
For now I have mirrorless toys and DSLR cameras. I have fun with both.

You always say something like this as a joke. It may not be a joke if you can't use a loud DSLR at some events in the future.

Imagine a silent world of mirrorless swans. The slap of a mirror will shortly be treated like lighting a cigarette indoors. You and your DSLRosaur relic will be asked to leave.

Probably the Z9. It seems to offer some capabilities not present the DSLR lineup. I particularly like the non-optical FTZ adapter, that offers IBIS AND a tripod socket. And even with the adapter, it is cheaper than the D6, which is now a year and a half older tech. I don't see any downside here.

You don't even have the sound of the shutter with the Z9 unless you turn on the fake shutter sound.
We photographers have a tendency to be conservative and I for sure can be counted as one of them. We are watching on a yearly basis how mirrorless is taking over. At first professionals refused the idea of using these cameras but eventually mirrorless took over and today a large group of professionals are using mirrorless cameras. Remember when cameras came with an exposure meter built in? I was one of the many photographers that did not accept the idea. At the time I was using a Sekonic C&S hand held exposure meter. Eventually I bought a camera with the meter built in and after learning how to use it I became a happy camper. Today it is almost impossible to find a 35 mm camera without a built in exposure meter.
Technology has changed how we photograph. Mirrorless cameras are convenient and offer more advanced technologies than those built in dSLR bodies. I am always amazed at the powerful technologies built into the Olympus cameras and I can say they help me a lot in many cases, night photography and using Live Composite is one of them. It is very nice to watch the exposure in the rear monitor as the camera will expose. Modern firmwares can correct vignettes and wide angle distortions, something we could not do in the past. AF has been a godsend, especially for action and wildlife photographers. After Minolta introduced AF, I believe in the early 80's, I was not comfortable with it till I learned how to use it. AF has saved more than one of my images.
I am not familiar with the Z9 but all reports I have read have been very enthusiastic about the new camera.

I see you only have 400 + posts, so I will go easy on you. The two cannot be more dis alike. If money were no object the choice is clear, un mistakable, no brainer, easy as pie, all in, peddle to the floor, no brainer, chip shot, lay up, fast ball in the middle of the plate, no holes barred, slam dunk.

I have sold both of my D6’s and my Z7II in anticipation of the Z9. Shipped the first D6 yesterday. I think (hope) I made the right decision. If all goes well, will then sell my D850. Big leap.
