I am losing interest in this site. I still love this site, but, it is becoming demeaning to me, and, IMHO, other photogs. There are certain people on here who seem to enjoy pointing out how others are inferior to them. Seems, every time I make a post, there are those who say, "Didn't we just use 5 pages to discuss that topic last week?" I am sorry that my memory bank is so inferior to their memory bank, it is not fair of me to subject them to such low life mentality. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!! So, I will have to do some "low life" thinking if I want to stay on this site, and be subjected to such humility. This is just one example of subtle put-downs that appear on here, and some put-downs are not so subtle. No, I am not looking for sympathy, just stating a fact. And I really don't care if I pissed some of you off, I DON'T CARE!

Compared to other sites of this type, UHH is pretty good. You can place users on your "Ignore" list and they cannot comment on your posts. Just find the offenders on the user list and then place them on your ignore list.

Unfortunately, this is incorrect, Mike. The Ignore List only works with private messages. Originally it did include the ability to block people from commenting in your topics, but Admin reversed it, after a relatively short time. On the off-chance it is in effect again, put me on ignore, then send me a pm telling me you've done so, and I'll try to comment in one of your topics as a test.

To the OP: there are plenty of jerks here, just as there are in real life. When someone is being rude or nasty or idiotic, I've found that it helps to picture them naked and afraid

Hmm, I know how you feel, but:
1. If you give in and take them seriously - THEY WIN - so ignore them the old fashioned way or via the ignore setting on the site.
2. They can only bother you if you let them - DON'T LET THEM!
3. For everyone of those there are a big pile of other people on UHH - concentrate on the other people.
4. Just think "it is water falling on my back and I am a duck" No problem.

And, well this is also a bit of a put down if you allow it to be one and think of it that way, it isn't, it is advice:
It is time to Cowboy Up and be one of the tough that just keep going when the going gets tough.
I was a teacher for 35 years and often other faculty members would want to know why I was not upset like them about something going on at our school or in the district.(They were often having a total freak out.)
I would give a mini speech of Q&A:
"Are there enemy sappers in the wire at 10 meters?-no Are there landmines and bobby traps on campus?-no Are we under sniper fire?-no
Is there incoming mortar or artillery rounds?-no Are we in an ambush?-no OK, then things really aren't bad enough for me to get upset about." (I am a Regular Army veteran of 2 years, 2 months, 2 days of Vietnam combat time, 1966 through 1969, according to my DD214. So there is not really much that happens in "The World" that can make my list of REALLY BAD SH*T.

I just ignore them.
I don't care when what was discussed, or how may times.

The people who breath UHH might remember a subject being discussed prior,
but I sure as hell do not read EVERY SINGLE POST here! So I might miss it the first time also.
Besides, the person who made the "duplicate post" may not have read the "first go around".
I'm SURELY NOT GOING TO SEARCH to see if what I want to post was done prior. Especially with people using such lousy un-informing post titles.

If they're upset, it's their problem, not ours!

jradose, you asked a question 8 months ago and got 6 pages of comments. You raised the same issue a few days ago. You were reminded of that and asked if you had acted on the suggestions made in your earlier topic.

I'm guessing the poster you refer to is one who is very knowledgeable and helpful but has a sarcastic streak. Sarcasm is hurtful. I get that. But, with all due respect, I think that in this case you're overreacting.

I agree with srt101fan that the person you are referring to has a sarcastic streak but when he gets in his "teaching mode" he can really dish out the knowledge. With some people you have to overlook their flaws to get to the real person.

When I first joined UHH the trolls and nasty people were rampant and I almost quit until a very nice person explained that there were several trolls that tried to run new people off. If I hadn't taken his advice and stayed I would have missed out on mountains of information and help on photos that I really needed.

There is one person on UHH that I have had to put on the ignore list. He is demeaning and a pompous a**. By putting him on the ignore list I don't see any of his posts.

If the reason you have asked the question again, did you not find the answer you were looking for? If you let everyone know that you have asked and still need answers, you may find they are more willing to help.

Best wishes what ever decision you make but I do hope you don't give up on UHH.

If someone feels it necessary to point out that a topic has already been discussed, fell free to point out to them that you have not participated in a conversation on said topic and they don't have to participate in the current conversation. Some people don't seem to grasp the concept that UHH is nothing without conversation, nothing!
As far as leaving UHH, it's your choice and I'm fairly sure no one really cares. Participate, don't participate, it won't matter until the participation is so low that it's not worth keeping the site up and running.

I'll reinforce that.
As a 35 year classroom teacher I saw the same questions repeated multiple time each year for 35 years. There were always new students coming along and they always had variations of the same questions to ask.
It was just a fact of life as a teacher and you lived with it or you quite teaching. But some people don't really grasp that fact. If the have seen it before then everyone else should have seen it also is the way they think. Some of them get over it and learn that isn't the way the world works.

You can't change the world nor want to but to make life a little more fun for me I wrote "FU" on a small sticker and placed it over the "delete" button on my keyboard. Now if I get a snarky response or comment I hit the "FU" button. It always gives me a little laugh (but I'm easily entertained.)
