New Users of DxO Viewpoint 3?

I remember a small discussion about users of DxO Viewpoint 3 software. This is a rather niche piece of software, but can be used with several types of lenses. So it begs the question of who is using this software on UHH these days?

I thank you in advance for your responses.

Bill

I use it as a plugin to PS and LR, and inside of the DXO Photolab application. It is very flexible, corrects well for ultra wide angle lens volume anamorphosis, and is very fast at correcting keystone distortion. It can be used with any lens if there is the type of distortion in the image that be corrected. I find it to be a better than the alternatives.

Here is a pretty comprehensive review of what it does and doesn't do, and how it works.

I use it quite often. It can correct perspective issues and straighten verticals for most lenses except for fish-eyes like yours. I use it very often from within DXO PhotoLab 5.

The OP may be intending to use it on his fish-eye lens with the intent of making the images from it rectilinear.

I use it when the problem I'm having is beyond what my normal PP software can handle. It usually solves the problem.

I have the 2nd version of viewpoint, and it can correct some fisheye images, such as those made by my Canon 15mm fisheye, but it won't work for my Samyang 8mm fisheye. For that lens I have to use PTGui. Other than that, Viewpoint does a great job and is easy to use.

Didn't know that. No mention of fish eye.

Gene,

This is at least his fourth thread in which Viewpoint is discussed. The other three that I am aware of revolved around straightening out his fish-eye. You participated in two of them. He apparently purchased an 8mm fisheye and wanted to edit the images to make them rectilinear. Although it has not been mentioned so far in this thread, I wonder whether he is still looking for a quick solution to do that. He appears to be revisiting this subject multiple times in hopes of getting more favorable responses. When he says in his post that ,"I remember a small discussion about users of DxO Viewpoint 3 software", he is actually referring to his own threads.

These two are specific to Viewpoint.

This one also contains a discussion of straightening out his images and Viewpoint was raised as an option to try before he indicated it was a fisheye he was trying to straighten.

Ahhh, why? Wouldn't it have been simpler to have just changed the lens on the camera?

That is the obvious answer, but the OP either won't or can't do that and instead is trying to obtain rectilinear images from a fish-eye. You could read what he is trying to do if you peruse all three links I provided, except that it would probably be a waste of your time.
