Haven't posted in awhile. So here it goes. Local area volleyball district playoffs are going on, kind of relieved that this sport is ending (very difficult to get descent captures) and what do you know, I have time to make the football game down the road (last 2 quarters). I didn't plan on going to the football game expecting the volleyball game to go to 5 sets so I left my 400mm f2.8 beast at home. What the heck lets see if I can pull a Jules with just my 300mm that I was using at the volleyball game for the rafter shots for all the football shots (left my 70-200mm in the car).
My intended canon R6 camera settings for both volleyball/football using a 70-200mm f2.8 and 300mm f2.8 on both R6's were: ss:1/1250s, iso:auto 100-12800, f2.8 (I usually shoot volleyball at 1/1250s, but wanted to try football at the same settings).
ISO went as high as 12800, and the shutter ranges from 1/400 to 1/2000 and dramatic shutter changes was me quickly going between the two R6's and accidentally rotating the shutter dial and not noticing what I did until 4 or 5 frames later. The volleyball pictures came out okay, it was way too fast even while I focused only on 1 player and skipped the other 11 (this assumes I counted the number of players on the court correctly), just wicked fast! The football pictures with my 300mm (hand held) was simpler than my 400mm boat anchor on a monopod. Anyways, enjoy.

Hi Rick:
I am taking a break on my editing from yesterday's soccer games to comment on your excellent work here.
Exposure nailed, focus nailed, tight in the camera nailed, you can be a carpenter when you are not taking pics. lol Again Rick really great stuff. Keep up the good work. Back to my pics. Have a good day.

Thanks Raymond for your feedback, even though the ball was out of picture #1 field of vision, the enormous athletic level these girls do for spiking is incredible and hence my capture, there was no cropping on this image or actually any of the images except for straightening out the horizon.
Thanks,
Rick

Jules, thanks for your feedback it means alot whether its good or bad, I want to improve so feedback is so helpful. That said, Jim R accepted all but 4 pictures of my half a game football pictures, it was definitely framing and foreground players in the frame. For the volleyball, he punted 4 also and 2 of them are in my post here, can you determine which 2 of the 5? So question back to you and Tom, do you guys get the occasional photo rejections, maybe a just a few in a submitted gallery? Just curious on your submissions since I finally got my MP photo credentials and about ready to hit 30 posted galleries, chump change for you veterans.
Be safe,
Rick

4 and 5? Yes Jim gets on me too. Usually when I go to fast on my culling, editing. He is strict so every shot is important. We have to look at our work thru Jim's eyes not necessarily thru ours.
Back to my editing, I'd better slow down.
These are really sharp. I agree with Jules that I’d guess the last 2 of the volleyball shots are the ones, but I do like #4 regardless. #2 (setter) is awesome
On the football, overall -great, 3-5 especially, and #4 is the best of the set
Really nice work on both games
Excellent work on both games Rick. Thanks for sharing. Paul

You guys are right, photo's 4 and 5 were rejected! Obstructions and just not sharp!
I had another football picture rejected (see attached), but this was an experimental picture I threw out there to see how it would fair. Got rejected but what the heck, have to push the boundaries.

Thanks david vt for the feedback. Agree, #4 is stellar. This guy is a sophomore quarter back at 6' 5" (or so, not sure his weight), but he's already been recruited by all the top colleges.

BTW, great soccer picture, nice and tight (very sharp) and the ball is very close to the feet/body, more impact in my opinion. I saw the full gallery on Maxpreps, very nice!

Oh yea I get more than I would like to admit. I am getting better at culling my photos and don't feel bad or mess around, if it even looks close I delete it. Congrats on getting your credentials and the 30 galleries. I need to go back in and look at your galleries again. Thanks and BE SAFE!!
