Incredible set might work. Or maybe unbelievable. Harry PS That's one helluva cat.

This is from the first night and the male lion we saw after dark. I have never heard a lion full on let out a roar from 20 or so feet away.
It is something I will never forget! Then another answered far off in the distance. Later that night in my tent I was awakened and it sounded like Mr Lion was right under the tent. Tents here were on stilts and my tent was last in the well spread out row of tents and the gal who took me to my tent said many of the animals will pass under to go to the water hole which was just off the deck. Mr Lion was not under the tent I don’t think, but he certainly was close. Then the other replied and it was like that several times during the night. I did not mind being woke up for roaring lion. The elephants were not to be outdone and they had a lot of trumpeting and rumbling to go along with Mr Lion! It sounded very much like a wild kingdom just outside the tent!

So, I would have to say it was close to if not the highlight of the trip.
I have never done photography where they put a bright spot light on the animals. I think these turned out rather well for my first time!

I have a few questions concerning the technique used.

Why didn't the spot light alarm or disturb the lions? Are the animals used to it and have learned it is not a threat? Do some animals react differently to it than other species?

Also, are the lights in a fixed position or can they be moved or adjusted according to the situation and movement of the subjects? Lighting is key and the outfitter seems to have figured it out well.

Good work.

This was new to me as well. I ask about the light and these animals are accustomed to vehicles and lights at night are not unusual. Cats are ok with the light, however they did say you should not shine a light at animals like Impala as it does effect their sight and in the few minutes it takes their eyes to adjust they are vulnerable to animals like lions. Some places use a red light as it does not effect the eyes like white light. So for animals other than cats, elephants etc, they may use red light after dark. They used the red light to light our way home on the dirt road as to not bother the animals. The lights were large flashlights. We had 2 vehicles and one would shine on the cat. If it moved we moved and the flashlight moved! I guess a lot of places do this, it was my first time!
