You want to know what gets me going, and not in the right direction? Well let’s talk about Nude no. 127. It shows 1640 views and only 10 comments. That is approximately 0.006 comments per looker. What gives? If you look, at least say something about it, and maybe more than a thumbs-up emoji.

Who is looking and keeping their opinions to themselves? Or are these images we work so hard on just being downloaded and collected? Are they going to be seen on tumblr or some other site?

Thoughts?

Thumbs up IS a comment; it means, “I like it, nice job.” Sometimes that's all one needs to say.

I don’t know where to start on this. A few months ago, I posted a bunch of my images and got wonderful feedback and even some help on editing. It was affirming and just what I needed as I battle some chronic illness that manifested last June. I am slowly in recovery and sometimes I just don’t have the mental strength to do more than scan photos on this site. And, because of my experience, I won’t post negative comments if I don’t like a photo. Maybe, as I beat back some of this illness, I’ll engage more with my hedgehog community.

Everyone has their own story and this one is mine at this time. I’ll try to engage more if I can.

Thanks for raising this issue.

I often like an image but I don't always want to comment and just say "nice image" or some other inane thing so I just look and move on. Doesn't mean I didn't like the image. Most of your posts are very well done but I haven't said so. I do like them, though.

I tend to think that there are fewer people that like nudes so you don't get as many views or comments. I don't do nudes, but enjoy looking at them. I would do them if I weren't so nervous about interacting with and recruiting models.

I post birds and landscapes including sunsets and sunrises. On most of my favorite pics and get more than 3500 views and 50 or so comments. I just looked at some of my old posts and only those pics that really were outstanding got those comments and views. A few of my posts were not so good and I see a drop in comments. A lot might have something to do with the title of the post. I try to be descriptive so that it generates interest. But when it comes to nudes, like I said, if certain people aren't interested in them or are dead set against them, you won't even get a peak at your thread. I wouldn't worry about people steeling your images. The way I look at it is if someone likes my image enough to steel it, then I'm grateful and flattered that they liked it that much. I would only be pissed off if they entered it in a contest and won something.

Paging thru photos on UHH is a morning or afternoon coffee “thing” for me. If I find something particularly interesting to me, I comment. If I don’t, I don’t. Even if I had the time to comment on every photo posted, I doubt would.
I rarely post my own photos and when I do if someone does/doesn’t comment, I’m ok. Of course this is just my approach.

I like most of your posts but don't always comment. I'm a wildlife/landscape photographer so I know nothing about studio and/or nude shots with artificial lighting but I do know what I like/and what I don't. If it's really striking I will comment, sometimes at length. Other times just a "nice". I suspect that most of the UHH members are somewhat the same. I usually get hundreds of looks for every comment.

I agree, it is disheartening to see the ratio. I do wish there was a way to push out a "like," or similar rather than typing some phrase. I also sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable seeing the comments more about the model's beauty, sexuality/sensuality, more so than the photography.

As one who views but rarely posts comments, don't sweat it. Your photos are 98% great, that means 2% I don't care for. That was don't care for not hate plus or minus 1 percent.

Retired CPO posted he's a landscape photographer. So am I neither of us have experience with poses or lighting much less nude models. Looking at you Jim Tonne.

I don't think your photos are been downloaded to post elsewhere.. but could be we're all at risk.

I understand your feeling here, and I do agree. I'm new to the Hog and have started posting in various other categories. I get few replies, but I know many more eyes have seen them. And I'm just as guilty. I've been admiring your work for some time here and have been silent. Please, I encourage you to keep sharing your great work.

Me again.

Okay, so I’m feeling a little better after reading all y’all’s retorts. I will keep posting photos until I either get tired of it or I run out of photos worth posting. It just was a bit unsettling to see like 600 views on something and 1 comment that said “nice”. I’m not fishing for compliments, quite the contrary. I’m in search of honest discussion about the subject of nude photography and the nuts and bolts of it. Some of you guys are guys whose opinions I value and respect. Aside from the tiniest bit of rancor (not directed at me or by me), this forum has been very enjoyable and civil. I was, at first, hesitant to post my work for 2 reasons:
I’m usually a very private person.
I’m a little afraid of my photos being stolen.

I’m glad I took the plunge.

WirtzWorld- Relax. I am an old beginner and learning. Much of what I thought I knew, I found out I didn't know crap. That is what I enjoy about photography. I am an engineer by trade, close to retired, and photography is my new obsession. I am "looking" and trying to figure out why I like some thing's and dislike others. As an engineer, I hated listening to critiques based on ignorance, I don't want to do that to you. As others have commented, looking at my own work... I don't have much room to talk... yet. I am getting better. A good part of getting better is seeing your work and dissecting it the same way I spent almost 50 years taking other peoples work apart. Most of your work I like, thumbs up. The feedback you should be looking for is 1640 views. You have exposure and are affecting people. that is pretty fricking positive.

Ya, I like the way you think. Thanks for the pep-talk. I’ll be more grateful in the future for the views.
