Has anyone tried a teleconverter on a macro lens?

Why? What are your endeavoring to achieve? Besides increasing your UHH topic starter rank...
Yes I've used the Kenko 1.4x TelePlus PRO 300 DGX on the AF 200mm f/4D IF ED micro Nikkor
My Nikon D3x was able to AF with this adapter giving me a 280mm field of view.
The results where excellent albeit this is NOT a viable solution for BIF... the helicoid gearing on this huge chunk of glass is way too slow... It's designed for a high degree of precious (long focus throw... like ~290 degrees...)

That said if you are looking to get more magnification then please consider the Nikon PK-12; PK-13; and PN-52 Extension Tubes. There are actually designed to work in this scenario rather than a third party work around.

Hope this helps...
And please share your perceived need here so others can make intelligent meaningful inferences...

Note: the Nikon TC-14A Teleconverter, works extremely well for Nikon (AI & AIS Up to 200mm)
the Nikon TC-14B Teleconverter, works extremely well for Nikon (AI & AIS longer than 200mm)

I have a little direct experience with a 'macro' lens and extender, the example below just 1 of 15 images I found in LR. People have all kinds of experiences with other brands. For Canon EOS technology, the two extender options (1.4x and 2x) connect only to a limited group of EF L-series lenses. Essentially, L-glass magnifying L-glass.

This 180L macro is rather finicky in AF performance. The 1.4x extender doesn't help any. The image dates back to July 2015, my only experiment with this configuration. Personally, I use 'normal' prime lenses in the 300 to 500mm range with extenders to throw a whole lot of focal length (effective 420mm to 700mm) onto macro subjects, a configuration that seems better for my shooting style and equipment vs extending a dedicated macro. I also tend to use extension tubes to shorten the minimum focal distance of the extended lens configuration.

Wow Thomas who peed in your corn flakes? "Why? What are your endeavoring to achieve? Besides increasing your UHH topic starter rank..."

Let me try to explain in simple terms:

I am 78 years old with bad knees and particularly when I am shooting small subjects on the ground I have trouble getting close enough to get 1:1 ratio with my 90mm macro lens. What I was asking in my own inept way was if I use a 1.4 TC can I increase my focal distance to 126mm and still keep a 1:1 ratio

Then by all means give it a try...

Let me ask why you have the rank of number 5 as a thread starter...
I'm curious why you are so active on UHH... And what's with the age thing?
At 78 you and I are exactly the same age...
Maybe get a grip on your health/wellness routines...
fyi I do Yoga EVERY DAY and have done same for decades.
I also do progressive resistance training religiously...

Oh btw, I don't eat junk food... a.k.a. Corn Flakes...
I'm a hardcore lacto vegetarian... for breakfast I do Yogurt and sprouts...
Come to think of it maybe you should rethink your diet also...

Sorry but your query was way too vague and open ended.
You've been on UHH long enough to know which way the wind blows...
And please don't try to hide behind the "Age" thing I'm not buying it...
Take better care of your health, at the end of the day it's a precious commodity.

If your micro subjects are too much a challenge then maybe it's time to rethink your genre(s)
I had to this with the pandemic...
Food for thought: When one door closes look carefully another may well open for you...

Wish you all the best in health and happiness...
Especially with your 90mm micro..
Cheers!

Your missive explains a great deal. As to why one has a particular thread starter rank, I suspect it is a little like Colonel Sanders secret spices, top secret. One factor may be sociability. You'll need to consult with admin. What someone has done in their life, and even "how they have cared for themselves" may not be the answer to where they are at a certain age. And BTW your particular "recipe" does not suit many, or even most. I much appreciate your photographic expertise and your helpfulness. Your photos are usually splendid. The Snark, well, unless attacked, you might think sociability. Who knows what rank you might obtain.

Not a telecoverter but an extension tube, which is what you need for macro.

I think the results would depend on the quality of the macro lens, assuming you are satisfied with the results from your converter. If you have one of each, it's worth a try.

Hate to see those two in the same bar together after a few drinks. On the other hand it might be interesting to watch.

Yes, I have done it - the right combination can work extremely well despite the nay-sayer's theories. Please try it if you feel the need. Make sure you use the extra stabilization required !

Congrats on all of your health and physical achievements. Also congrats on your excellent photographic skills. Also on your writing skills. Perhaps you need a little dose of humility because in my opinion your spiritual skills are not that well developed.

I listen to a radio guy Gary Null, I also have some of his books. He has some great opinions and advise, but he is an outright narcissist so I guess no one is perfect.

I don't recall exactly the name, but I think its Pharisee. He is the guy who addresses God saying I'm so perfect in every way.....
Good luck on your Journal Thomas, I hope you can find love somehow.
