Love that ship, my wife and I used to watch it come at night. We told everyone we were watching the submarine races.

I've taken and enjoyed the BADGER experience a couple of times returning to Pittsburgh from Wisconsin via Motorcycle to avoid the fun of the Chicago riding experience. Thanks for sharing your photos of it; here's a couple of our shots of the BADGER from 2008.

One of our goals during October's road trip was to take the ferry from Ludington, Michigan to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. We've talked about doing it for several years. Finally made it happen! Of course we couldn't control the weather that was overcast, but no real rain.

Fantastic experience - especially the BOOM

I took that trip about 50 years ago! I was getting set to board with my Datsun 2~seater convertible, and the darn thing wouldn’t start. Someone suggested I rap on the twin SU carbs with a wrench, and it started! About halfway across I felt a little seasick as the horizon was bobbing up and down through the window. Great trip!

Thank you BurghByrd.....for sharing your experience on the S.S.Badger! That's cool......going by Motorcycle "to avoid the fun of the Chicago riding experience." I was hoping a couple of folks would chime in who had done this crossing before in their lives.....and it's happened! Thanks! It was my pleasure sharing these photos and always happy when it stirs up memorable moments for someone else. Also appreciate your 2008 photos that you added. At least the sun was shining for YOU back on that day! Had it been sunny for us I would have been in one of those lounge chairs! Bob

Hello lordblair......Oh good! Another memory from about 50 years ago was stirred up allowing you to share your S.S.Badger experience! Glad it was you and not me feeling "a little seasick"! They probably could have carried your Datsun 2-seater convertible aboard had it not started for you! Appreciate you for sharing your experience. Bob

Thanks Transbuff1985 (Bob)......Pleasure being here to share some of our travels, which I might say are much fewer and further between this past 1 1/2 years! Our family are all doing well and glad you enjoyed our ferry cruise. I've shared a couple of other posts from this October vacation which took me a bit to get back into doing it correctly. Thanks again, Bpb

Hello Bob, while I've never done east coast ferry crossings, I've had a lot of experience in the Northwest US and Canada. At the time of your Badger trip I had a demolition company based in Vancouver Island, Canada, and we took the BC ferry system thru the inside passage all the way to a paper mill in Prince Rupert, Canada. I thought then that it would be the best way to explore the inside passage from Seattle to Alaska. It is very economical, you take your car or perhaps motorcycle, get off at any stop that looks interesting, stay as long as you like then hop back on. Its even possible to book a sleeping compartment at reasonable rates, and the cafeterias aren't bad either. The Inside Passage is just beautiful, and seeing the little seaside towns along the way makes for a different experience from a cruise ship, allowing unlimited exploration with a combination of driving and ferry travel. The ships are also huge, clean, and modern. You do of course see the same whales and orcas as you otherwise would on a cruise boat and the scenery is anazing. Just a thought for the more adventurous hogs here. :) Thanks again for your posts, they brought back some nice memories.

Hello Bob, while I've never done east coast ferry ... (show quote)

Wow Tdearing.....Sounds like this could be a wonderful new adventure! Might have to look into this possibility and check out further details. I've been thinking that another cruise to Alaska (would be my 3rd) but this sounds like an interesting alternative. Thank you for planting new thoughts into my brain! Bob
