So I finally bit the bullet and ordered this bad boy. I kind of wanted to throw up at the price but when I tried to upgrade Lightroom to the newest version it would not even open on my current computer. I have been wanting an upgrade for awhile now. The one I am currently using barely can run Lightroom and forget about photoshop. Half the time Lightroom lags and freezes when trying to do edits. The one I have now has 8g ram. The new one will have 64g. I also bought a HUION pen tablet to go with it to make editing easier. This is the first step to upgrading my photography gear. Eventually, I want a new camera but I will have to get this paid off first. I am so excited for this to arrive!

Do you edit using a laptop screen or desktop? My edited images look awesome on the laptop but too dark other devices

I ordered this same computer almost a year ago and it struggles with LR and PS, blue screen of death often. Problem is memory, apparently, not 32 that it has, but the limiting 2GB of the NVIDIA GeoForce MX 350 Video Card. That can't be changed. Wonderful computer for everything else. I run PS and LR every day because I take and process bird and landscape pictures every day. I will see the death screen two or three times per week. It upgraded fine to Win 11. The modifier of this computer sent me 2 - 16 GB replacement memory cards which I installed without difficulty, about 9 months ago, helped a bit, bit didn't address the real problem. When I ordered through Amazon, I missed the fine print that modification was by a third party and wasn't covered by Dell warranty.

Bugs,
Looking at the listing online at Amazon, this one has something provided by Intel with the I7 chip called Iris XE graphics, not a NVIDIA GeoForce MX 350 Video Card. I have no idea of the performance of this Graphics card. This one also appears to be opened and modified by the seller, likely voiding the Dell warranty somewhat as you said. No doubt this is a big upgrade for the OP. Hope it handles her needs well.

Wow, congratulations. Now how about an external drive for not so used program installs and data and one for photos.

Thank you everybody for the suggestions. I know I need to invest in an external hard drive but am tapped out for now. Transferring my photos isn't hard because I everything is saved to "cloud" type storage. All I have to do is log in and evrything is there. So convenient and I can access my stuff on any device. I'll let you know how I like it once I get to play on it some.
Hi maggiemae,
How fast is your internet connection?
Dave
The first PC we had at work had choice of 10 or 20mb, but had a big DEC that had a 5, the size of a large serving platter.
Just this week, I decided to move a lot of old data onto my new drives. These were backups of backups so I'm not worried about losing anything, but several of the smaller drives (200 to 500 GB) could not be accessed, no drivers (this from one companies website). Still going to try using old computers, but another concern.
Thank you, I will check this out.

I only have a laptop right now. I do notice when I print I have to make the image slightly brighter than what I would tend to based on the screen. I imagine someday I will purchase a bigger screen to hook to it but right now I just don't have space for one. Our house is tiny and my desk is already overcrowded.

I have the upgraded package from spectrum so its pretty fast. However it would probably be faster if I hooked it directly to the computer instead of using wifi.

That should be very fast for you. I just wanted to rule out if that could contribute to your Lightroom behavior you originally talked about, since you are using the cloud version, I assume.

I actually use the classic version. I tried the cloud version before and didnt like it as much. But the new upgrade they just came out with would not even open on my computer I have now. I've been needing something better for a long time and decided this would be my Christmas present to me from my husband lol!
What hard drive? My first computer did not have a hard drive. It wasn't invented yet. It was an IBM PC with two 5.25 inch floppy drives. One drive was for DOS and the other for data which could hold up to 72MB.

When you wrote the following, I incorrectly thought you were using the cloud version. "Transferring my photos isn't hard because I everything is saved to "cloud" type storage. All I have to do is log in and evrything is there. So convenient and I can access my stuff on any device."
Don't feel bad. I just bought a Mac PowerBook with the same specs and no touch screen and my educational price was 4,000.

Wow! Thats hefty. This one is a two in one so I can use it like a tablet or a laptop. To find one with these specs was amazing. It isn't compatible with the dell pen unfortunately so I bought a pen tablet to go with it.
