Good for you !!! Let us know how that finally works out.
Approximately 15 years ago I purchased a Tamron 28 - 300 lens for my Canon. It served me well for two years and then broke down. Tamron wanted $100 to fix it. I declined and still have the lens and it still looks like new (paper weight). Since then I have only purchased Canon "L" glass and have never looked back...and have never had another lens problem!
You might try one and feel the difference in weight and handling. I use a Tamron 28 - 300 on a Canon, and friends used the Canon version. Several have switched to the Tamron and happy. Lat week a Nikon friend looked at my Tamron, handled it ans said they are going to look to see a Nikon version.
You're the only one who can decide that. My input would be based on the information discussed with a Nikon rep regarding lenses. The glass formulae used in making Nikon lenses is highly classified. Those lens elements are formulated and ground to provide the most precise focus and optical performance available. Some of the differences between Nikkor and others may only be determined with expensive lab equipment. However, I would not purchase a lens for exclusive use on any of my Nikons made by anyone but Nikon.

OTOH I didn’t need a new Nikon for my Nikkors, but I wanted a camera to use with Leica lenses. Turns out a Nikon Z6 was exactly right for that assignment.
I recently purchased a Zeiss for my Nikons, specifically more for my F. It works rather well.
