This beautiful elephant family came to visit us during our lunch break on day. It was so cool to just have them come and check us out! They walked right up to our camp area looked at us for a while then just wandered off down to the river for a drink!
I have included a few shots of camp to give you an idea of the area.

Just standing by our chairs looking at us. Maybe teaching the little ones what people are and where they live!

Wow!!! What an awesome experience!!! I certainly am enjoying all your photos. Thanks for sharing and keep them coming.

BTW--were any of the elephants brave enough to be petted?

Wonderful photos! Will never do a photo safari because I have never figured out how to have a camera and heavy rifle both at the ready at the same time. If an elephant decides to dislike you for any reason of their own, nothing but someone fast and accurate with a heavy rifle will save you. No interest in big game hunting, but if it is me or a "whatever" my philosophy is to be the one alive at the end of the encounter.

Oh no, they got fairly close, but we gave them their space. Iā€™m glad you are enjoying the photos!

This is the first trip where we have been able to get out on foot with the animals. However we did have to have a guide that is licensed to go with us. The guide to get his license must be able to put a bullet in the brain of the charging animal within 5ā€ of the area that will kill it instantly. He must have shot not necessarily all the big 5 but some and pass several tests. So we felt safe and confident!
The Kenya trip I was on we never got out of the vehicles. The animals basically ignore you as they are so used to people in vehicles. Now, get out of the vehicle and you are considered fair game!!
I have never felt threatened by any animal. The crocodile in Zimbabwe however were a bit scary and you certainly do not want to end up in the water for any reason!!

Sounds good. A quirk of mine is that I never trust others with my own safety or that of my family. Look up Johnny Uys - there has probably never been a person with more big game creds. Wonderful, envy inspiring photos in any case.

We went on a safari in East Africa in Feb 2020, just pre-covid. The guides are NOT allowed to carry lethal weapons! We only left our vehicle at designated locations. We were reminded that in the vehicle we were at the top of the food chain, on the ground, we lost that position.

The trip was our trip of a lifetime!

Your life view and mine clearly are at odds. I wish you well. Look up Johnny Uys.
