I went pumpkin-ing at a farm nearby. The owner, Phil, explained to me that the ubiquitous orange ones are bred for carving and not very tasty. However, the white and other colorful ones are bred for taste and tend to be very sweet. He will roast one and cut off the lobes one by one at mealtimes for a few days. We are having a warm fall (68° today!) and cosmos are still in bloom.

I noticed in the grocery the other day a crate of "pie pumpkins" that weren't very pretty, and a crate of pumpkins that were beautiful. I didn't know there were different kinds.
