Epson SureColor P900 Printer

I have been trying to educate myself on photo printers for quite some time now. The one that I keep coming back to is the Epson SureColor P900. Relatively speaking it may be a bit spendy, including the ink. What I am looking for are personal experiences with this printer or any other pieces of information that are out there that I am not aware of. Photography is strictly a hobby for me but I do get a fair number of requests for photos I have taken over the years. Let me know what you all might think.

Photography is a hobby for me as well
I had the P800 and now P900 and love it.
The quality that it produces when used with the correct papers is second to none.
It is actually cheaper in the long run than the P700.
Ink cost per milliliter is almost half. It only takes a couple of ink changes to pay for the difference.

The only competition for a 17" wide photo/fine art printer is the Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000. It comes down to which version of stunning 17" prints do you want? Inkjet photo printers from both Epson and Canon have become so good that the real problem is running out of display space for the big, gorgeous prints.

Both also make 13" wide versions that are equally impressive.

I used an Epson 3880 and got high quality images. The 17 X 20s were great. When the print head failed 4 years ago I replaced it with the P800. It is a workhorse and the prints it turns out could not be better. I did 38 17 X 20s for an invited gallery show and the quality of the images was beyond my expectations. I don’t have experience with the P900 but if you can find a P800, go for it!

Epson's P-series printers are the gold standard for top pro labs, service bureaus making 'giclee' prints, museums, and art schools like SCAD.

The key to great results from any of them starts with a proper color management workflow. Calibrate your monitor with a tool from X-Rite or Datacolor. Be sure to use paper manufacturers' ICC profiles or make your own. (Epson and Canon build them into their software for their OEM papers and inks.)

In 2003, I put an Epson Stylus Pro 9600 44" wide roll paper printer in a portrait lab. It ran 20 hours a day, six days a week, during peak season, and produced the finest print quality in the lab. Today's P-series are evolved from that printer line.

Use Epson inks if you want your prints to last and look right with Epson paper profiles and Epson paper. Some third party inks WILL clog your heads. We learned that the hard way, in the lab!
