When I've tried photographing these bugs they always hide on the opposite side of the leaf from me. Do you have that experience? Or maybe mine are "Lady Di bugs"?

Excellent job!! How many tubes did you work with, 1,2 or 3?
The ones I try to photograph either move or my flash shows up on the outside of the carapace.
Nicely done.

I had all three (65-mm of tube) on a 1:1 macro lens. I did some modifying of my diffuser to make it work right with my tubes on and when I did it did away with a lot of the glare I usually get when taking lady bug pics these are the best ones I have had yet

I think they are terrific, thanks for the information. I will try that the next time it isn't raining.

I think that you did an awesome job! I'm still trying to get a grip on my lighting while using my tubes.

What illumination source are you attempting to master?

I have a Nikon SB-10 Speedlight. I just bought it and I'm new to photography so I'm just learning. I have to use manual focus with my macro lens so I'm still trying to get good at that too.

The Nikon SB-10 Speedlight was introduced in 1979, long before digital cameras. It is slow and under-powered. I will be surprised if it even works properly on a modern digital camera. Read more here: http://www.bythom.com/sb10.htm
Here is the manual: http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/archive/SB-10.pdf

What camera and macro lens are you using?

Yes I know it is old. It works fine on my camera with the ttl cord. Never tried it directly on the camera. I use a Nikon D3000 and my macro lens is a Nikkor 55mm.
