We started off from Fort Royal, VA.On an 18-day road trip. Got to Fort Royal, perfect weather. We started off the next day and for the first 3 days, we encountered 3 days of rain, fog, and miserable weather. It cleared when we get off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville, NC.

Ouch. You got a few nice shots in, and I am partial to misty moody images, but just the thought of driving in the rain for three days makes me cringe. Hope the rest of your trip is better!

Had the exact experience years ago. The park ranger said "you can't see your hand in front of your face" We went anyway. He was right. Skyline Drive VA

Thank you. It was a very nice trip. We did the Shenandoah National Part to the Blue Ridge to Smokey Mtn. Nat. Park. With stops along those roads. then down to Savannah across to Charleston then three days back. Savannah and Charleston were a total of 7 days. The biggest disappointment was the time spent in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. I have yet to look at the other folders with the other pictures. I do agree with you I also like the misty weather. It does add another dimension and interest

All curved roads wander into wilderness and wildlife, mists and falling leaves. A perfect blend of luck and skills.

Enchanting imagery

The micro climate effect you were expiencing here is known as Orographic "Lifting" i.e. Precipitation, a.k.a. rain, snow, or other precipitation produced when moist air is lifted as it moves over a mountain range. As the air rises and cools, orographic clouds form and serve as the source of the precipitation, most of which falls upwind of the mountain ridge. Ever wonder how that extension of SkyLine Drive is through the "Great Smoky Mountains" betweem North Carolina and Tennessee gots it's name? Yep, misty mornings are the norm...

The higher elevations in those mountains are blessed with ample precipitation year round... The fauna and flora indigenous to those lofty heights is completely different form that found in the valleys below... The southern most range of the snowshoe hare is indeed in the Smoke Mountains... It is typically found only in Canada and Alaska... The Smoke Mountains are "Islands" in the sky...

Brings back many found memories... I use to work near Green Bank WVA very close to Spruce Knob... The highest peak in WVA!

Thank you for sharing traderjohn...

Very nice pictures. Hopefully, you're aware your sensor or lens has a definite artifact on it.
