Horse Fly

This large horsefly was about 1.5" long.For judging size the azalea pods are about 1/4" round. Nkon 5100 nikon pc macro 55 mm lens. f8 125 flash

A few suggestions from someone who is far from accomplished with macro:

Less of the underside of the fly, in others words, try to get more level with the fly
A little more exposure-- looks a tad under-exposed
On #2 bracts are the point of focus, go more for the fly. As Nikonian72 suggests, use the smallest degree of autofocus, press shutter half way to lock focus and re-compose and fire-- all of this before he flies away.

you are lucky,i would love to get a shot at one of those!i like to shoot sideways 90degrees or head on.what a beautiful fly.tom

Thanks for the info.I shot in manual .Had about 1 sec time

Thanks I would love to have another chance at him. Only had about 1 sec.&he was gone

I know, these guys don't sit long-- so it's a nice capture. Manual focusing is getting more and more difficult for me.
