NikonRumors has posted that the Nikon Z9 will be officially announced on Thursday October 28th and will probably be shipped in December.
Nikon is also expected to announce a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 S zoom for the Z on the same day.
They are also expected to announce the development of a 400mm f/2.8 Z lens on the same day.
The following is a picture of the 100-400mm zoom which doesn't seem to be marked VR which surprises me:
Ooops...upon closer inspection it does say VR on the outside of the filter mounting ring on the front. "100-400mm 1:4.5-5.6 VR S"
Congratulations on being the first to rebroadcast this news from another source.
Will you let us know when it is announced, or when it becomes available.
Without UHH we'd all be left in the dark.

As I'm getting older, I'd like to lighten my load on both my neck and in my bag. I've thought of moving to a DX mirrorless system. The one thing holding me back is that the lens I use 95% of the time is an 18-200mm zoom. After a recent trip, just for the hell of it I tabulated how many shots were taken in the 18-70mm, 70-135mm, and 135-200mm ranges of that lens. I was surprised to find out that my pictures were pretty much evenly divided among those 3 ranges. So, until Nikon comes out with an 18-200 DX mirrorless zoom, I guess I'll stick to DSLRs.

Nikon will also be releasing soon the 200-600 mm lens.
Thank you for the snark. Totally unnecessary.

That’s the one I’m waiting for! I was hoping for this year. Guess it’ll be next.

They recently released the 18-140mm but nothing longer on the roadmap.
You can probably go to the Nikon site and sign up for alerts. I have received 3 teaser emails so far.
I suspected it would be before Christmas.
These are interesting reports, but leave me wondering about the mirror-less advantages of less weight. Buy a lighter body and then mount a monster lens on it?? And an f stop at 6.3. Just in case you ask, yes I bought a Zfc for the control layout and light weight. Darned if I want to mount a monster lens on it. Otherwise I'll just shoot my DSLRs.

People aren’t buying the Z9 for less weight. They’re gonna buy it for focus and frame rate and all the other benefits of mirrorless. And I don’t think most people with Zfc’s will be mounting those long lenses.

I may tend to disagree a tad.
I lug two D850's with battery packs around. One mounted with a 24-120mm and the other with either a 200-500mm or 80-400mm or 70-200mm lens on it. All combined, about 10+. pounds.
Recently photographing the Huntington Beach air show, I found myself having great difficulty holding the D850 and 200-500mm lens anywhere near steady.
I would welcome any cut in weight with the Z9 and associated Z lenses.
