Bill,
Lots of solid advice on the credit situation. I used Adobe for 4 years and stopped due to upgrades breaking both PS & LRC.

I have had the NIC collection for years and when DXO bought NIK from Google I was quite happy. That was when things started getting fixed with NIK. I was introduced to DXO Photolab 2 essentials via a NIK update. I now have DXO PL4 elite and Affinity photo and have left Adobe behind. I did try ON1 RAW 2018 as I saw a demo at a conference. I had to update my PC to 24GB of RAM for it to load. I was disappointed with the performance. I did not update. I also tried Corel's Paintshop Pro. I found the interface to be daunting.

I use PayPal for all of my online purchases. I had a sponsor for Adobe products so the payments were not my issue.

I am also a user of GIMP & Nikon Studio. I don't require a photo app to track where my photos reside either. I found the catalog part of LRC to be a stumbling block once I used my file management to archive images. I do not use editing apps to do maintenance jobs. But then I am a retired IT Pro.

I would suggest using PayPal to pay the monthly fee. Best of luck.

You can buy outright "Photoshop Elements" 2020-21 from Staples and other chains.

I don't want to burst everyone's bubble about Paypal but I've had my account breeched twice due to the automatic sign in. Twice now, somehow, someone managed to spoof my login and made some purchases. Paypal urges you to use the auto login for some reason that isn't clear to me, while at the same time most entities dealing with money are doubling up on their secure login processes. I have turned off the autologin twice now and Paypal keeps turning it back on without my approval. I had a hard time convincing Paypal that it was not me who made those purchases because they think their login algorithm is foolproof. Paypal is very efficient at helping you spend your money but are less so when it comes to standing behind their guarantee. If you deserve a refund you'd better have your case meticulously documented or you probably won't get your money back even when it's clear that you've been scammed. Paypal has a bunch of young people deciding the complaint cases who clearly do not understand the tradition of fairness and fraud in business dealings in the U. S. It's like they just go down a multiple choice test deciding cases without benefit of even reading the complaint.

Separate to that but noteworthy while I'm airing things out, petty Chinese scam artists are slick and get away with a lot that Paypal won't make them pay on. The scammers post phony adverts, selling goods they don't even have, under one company name, deposit the money under another name, send you a receipt under another name, respond to you with support under another company name, and then send you a bait and switch product you didn't order with no return address on the package, or with yet another company name and it's a real pain to try to figure that out when you have ordered multiple things online in a short stretch when all of it arrives on the slow boat two months later. They're taking advantage of the fact that there are legitimate liquidation sales that take place to get rid of bankrupt merchant's stock they have to move, etc. If you order multiple items within a short period, you need to set up a spreadsheet to keep up with who you bought what from and keep track of it as well as the name changes, or you may very well not be able to justify going to Paypal for a refund if you don't get what you ordered. You forget what you ordered even. In three of four cases Paypal denied my claim for which they say there's no appeal, "all decisions final," and my bank interceded and refunded my money and took it back from Paypal. All of the purchases I'm referring to were merchants under the "Shopify" umbrella for purchases I made from adverts on Facebook Marketplace or Instagram, "accessory" items costing less than $50 each, items that I had not seen for sale by other merchants. I'm done with that.

I've been using exposure x6 and really like it. The latest release just came out (x7).

Try the free trial and watch the tutorials. The UI is similar to LR.

Most credit cards offer a one time use card number for “at risk” payments - so when they send you a notice that they are about to charge your account, just add one of those one time card number to your account - then after they charge that card number - poof it is gone! No risk.

Look at darktable.org, it does all but mix bags of developer, handles raw processing. Being open source software, versatile and free it has made a wet color photolab a fond memory.

Greetings:

I have had my credit card numbers stolen three (3) times in the last 4 years. As a result I am looking to cut down on the number of places that have my card on file such as Adobe. Adobe does not have any other method of payment... as I asked. So, the question is: What is the next best editing software that sells their product outright and is good as Lightroom/Photoshop?

I don't know where my card numbers were stolen from. I just want to cut down the number of places that have them on file and I am NOT accusing Adobe of mishandling my card numbers. I just need to know if there is an alternate to having my credit card on file, having it stolen, then sold on the internet as has happened to me.

I am not looking forward to changing from Lightroom/Photoshop as I have well over 20 years invested in their products, but if that is the only way to keep my credit card off companies systems, so be it.

I really like Corel Aftershot Pro 3, and Paintshop Pro. It does everything I need it to do. No monthly fees. You buy it and it's yours. They also have several how to videos on YouTube that are very helpful and lots of plug-in add-ons you can purchase separately
