The rock strata in this area of NC varies greatly in angles from absolute horizontal. In fact, the angles of the strata vary a great deal from one another in nearby layers. I think the photo is as level as it can get if you refer to the top of the falls. As you go down the falls, the layers seem to slant more each level. So, I really think it is "Mother Nature" and not the photographer in this case.
