Z camera issue

My sister and I returned from Tanzania where all 3 of our Nikon Z’s had failure of LED screen. Between us we had a Z6, a Z6ii and a Z7ii.
After 48 hrs travel home and a good camera cleaning I’m happy to report return of function…for all 3.
Anyone know if this occurred from overheating, dusty roads in the Crater, or some other cause?

Are you sure it wasn't just the eye sensor on the viewfinder getting dirty? That has happened to me a couple of times and the rear LCD stops until the sensor is cleaned.

IMHO, this problem and simple fix deserves more attention. My wife’s Z6 was driving both of us crazy last week until I tracked it down on Google. So easy.

I agree! It’s a weak spot and annoyed us several days. Maybe a different eyepiece design, or forewarning at least! Thankfully I found I could still access the menu via the eyepiece view.
Thanks!

I did shoot with my D500 for awhile, but soon went back to the Z7ii because it was brighter and better with autofocus! I do love the Z series!

I hope they're still under warranty. I'd contact Nikon right away.

I don’t know that I’d call it a weak spot. I’ve had it happen with every camera I own that has an EVF with automatic switching, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony.

Nothing to contact Nikon for, just clean the eye detection sensor.

That happened to my Sony a6600. The owner of Delray Camera where I bought it immediately knew what the problem was and had me on my way in a couple minutes.

My Z6 does this upon occasion as well. One little blow to the eye sensor solves it. No trip to Nikon Repair needed. It's a bit annoying when it happens and I hope Nikon does something about it in future cameras, but don't let it ruin your day. Seems to be a 'thing' with mirrorless! Best of luck.

Thanks. I just didn’t know about it and none of the photographers we were with knew what was going on, so we thought something was broken. Appreciate all the kind responses!!

...well, *design* is what it is for you. Now you know of the condition so it's an easy fix. No big deal.
