As you must haver heard, there is a shortage of computer chips, and this is raising prices of electronics and making products more difficult to find. A recent article in the Washington Post suggests that companies are placing large orders for chips and stockpiling them. The chips are being produced in sufficient numbers but car makers and computer makers are having trouble getting enough because other companies are hoarding them.

Talk about a chip shortage, this is getting pervasive; for 3 days, I haven't been able to find Fritos Scoops at any of the local grocery stores!

One can only hope that these companies hoard the chips long enough for the chips to become obsolete.

That's one of their potential problems. With chips improving so rapidly, companies could be stuck with outdated chips.

My AIM-65 (6502 micro) computer is running just fine. 🤣 Of course, don't expect it to do more than blink LEDs in pretty patterns! 😂

US manufacturing of semi conductors has dropped to only 13% of our consumption, so we are at the mercy of countries like China. It’s is similar to the decline of other manufacturing industries in the US. We continue down this path at our peril.

Then they will put them in products for us and tell us how great the obsolete chip is, again we lose!

Just went to Costco and no TP in stock. Who's hoarding it now?

Finally! Someone who sees through to the heart of the matter. I just don't get it; aren't potatoes grown in Idaho and corn in Nebraska? Why do we rely on foreign chips?

Unparalleled idiocy. Why are we going this way?

If you're in manufacturing then you order supplies as needed. If there's a possible shortage then you order bunches...
