I bought a Z7 a few years ago. I have a good collection of F series lenses and I have been using it with FTZ and my F series lenses. However I don’t have a small prime as my AI lenses won’t autofocus on the FTZ.
I just bought my first Z lens the 40mm F2. It’s nice and compact on the Z7 a light small combo.
But Nikon didn’t include a lens hood or a pouch for the lens. So it’s not complete as is out if the box. That took a little bit of the fun out of it for me. Now I will have to spend more time finding and ordering a lens hood and also a carrying pouch.
And shooting with it have to be extra careful so as not to touch the glass, and also avoid sun or hold hand to shade the lens which is a PIA.
I think that was pretty cheap of Nikon and I wonder if that is how they want their customers to experience their new products?
I also wish they would start recessing their lenses again, especially the macros!

Where did you get a copy? I have mine on preorder with B&H. It is an inexpensive budget lens so I wouldn't expect it to come with a pouch and lens hood, and had confirmation of that from various review videos.
I know not everyone chooses to do this, but my first purchase would be a protective filter.

I received my Z fc w/28mm F2.8 yesterday. There was no lens hood. I ordered one from Amazon.

I just back-ordered from Nikon, the filter for the Z16-50 mm lens that came with my Z50...luckily Best Buy had one for the Z50-250mm...back-ordered both hoods, and a battery. Best Buy and B&H had nothing.
Meanwhile, I love the camera! (Thanks, Yessir...I'll post soon!)

I got it direct from Nikon. Looking at their advert it doesn’t say Hood and pouch are included.
It's not so much the added money, what $15? But it's the idea that you have to spend time to find the right hood and order it.
I'm getting crotchety in my old age. Petty but unnecessary things like this that waste my time are starting to bug me.
I mean really, would it have killed them to put a lens hood and pouch in the box? That’s Exactly how I feel.
So, have you ordered your lens hood yet? Which one did you order?

A collapsible hood is the way to go. If you want to photograph out a window or into an aquarium it will prevent light spill onto the lens.
Ah ok. I thought it was HR-3 as the HR-3 hood is 52mm screw thread compatible with 35mm FX F-mount lens.

I have one of those for my 50mm AF-D (F-mount) lens. That hood is great as is the lens.
However that lens will not autofocus on the FTZ. 😡
Lens hood caps! That is an interesting idea! Thanks for the link!
I agree with you. Most lens hoods are made of plastic and the cost to produce them on an injection mold machine is quite low especially when manufactured in a third-world country. It's frustrating to spend a thousand dollars or more for a lens and not get a plastic hood to go with it.

I'm still working on getting the lens. As I said it's on preorder at B&H. I'll worry about the lens hood later.
