The lighting inside the barn was pretty horrible so there's a fair amount of noise in this shot.

Yes, my daughter was having her four horses shod.

Sue, a very nice photograph and nicely composed. Don't worry about a naturally occurring phenomenon...digital grain.

Great shot. I think too many people, my self included, worry about noise. Grain was always an accepted part of film photography and noise it the digital equivalent

You're right - one of my favorite film shots is a very grainy image of a barn - the grain gave it great character.

Noise doesn't hurt black & white nearly as much as it does color. Sometimes I even add it, when converting to B&W.

Is Kat a Friesian?

I noticed that when processing this current batch taken at the barn during the shoeing - the noise in the color shots was pretty nasty but not as noticeable when converted to B&W. And yes, Kat is an 18yo Friesian who was once a show horse but now belongs to my daughter's MIL and is enjoying retirement on the farm. Her tail is a bit ratty at present as it was chewed by a young feeder calf this summer - hope it grows back quickly!!

Farrier's rock. Never met one who wasn't a hard worker.

Great photo! Love the way both you and the horse are eyeing the farrier. My dogs used to LOVE cut horse's hooves. It was a real treat for them.
