Walked about the yard with camera in hand to see what I might find and here are a few of what awaited me there.

Yard walkabouts can be quite productive. Hope you collected specimens for stacking, sippy.

Thanks, Quixdraw. It appears that the more time I spend out there looking, the luckier I get.

Thanks, Kpmac. Fall is setting in so the leaves are starting to turn and drop and my insect friends are now making themselves scarce. It won't be long and I'll switch to searching in the woods under the deadfall.

Beautifully done! Those backgrounds are also very pleasing.

Thanks, Mark. The Nikon NIKKOR Z MC 105mm f/2.8 VR S Macro Lens appears to do a good job for me. I shoot manual between 1/160 to 1/250 second at f/11 to f/16 depending on ambient conditions and I use a large diffused flash between 1/32 to 1/16.

The lens does a good job of focus fall-off which produces creamy backgrounds. I find the Nikon Z6 and this lens to be sooooo much easier for me to hold focus due to its lightweight and not being so front-of-lens heavy. Of course, the image stabilization of the camera and that of the lens are a great help also.

Although it may not compare to the world-class Canon MP-E65, it's about as good as us Nikon fellows can do.

Thanks, Doc. A fellow has to get out and about to stretch his legs with a camera in hand at times and the good news for me is that there does not appear to be any chiggers in our yard.

Very nice collection and nicely shot Gary. I do love your walkabouts, I tried to pick out a couple of favourites but failed to do so because all came top.

Thanks, Brenda. I enjoy getting out-and-about although I don't do it as much as I would like to. Cooler weather is starting to set in now so my scouting methods will change to walks in the woods now.

Beautiful Sippy. I wouldn't get that close to a Yellowjacket and the ant is a great shot.

Thanks, Curmudgeon. I'd rather have the distance of the Nikon 200mm macro however the new S-mount 105mm is ever so sweet and light. Of course, the 105mm means that I have to get closer due to the shorter working distance and at times it's a bit unnerving when the subject can fly and sting. Typically I do stage sessions at 5X with carpenter ants and this one was "on the hoof" at 1X.
