A taste of Times Square, NYC

During my early teens in the late ‘40s, living in NJ about an hour outside of New York City by bus and ferry, my parents allowed me to travel to Yankee Stadium, by subway of course. I had $6.00 to use for the day, which included dirty water hotdogs. I was taught to be afraid of, and to avoid at all costs, Times Square.
When I go there now to shoot, I see plenty of young teens, with and without adults.
Whenever possible, I go underground to travel. It’s always quick…and, almost always, has something to shoot (top photo).
Yes there are hustlers, in costumes to be photographed by/with tourists for tips (I don’t tip as I shoot them working, FYI; I’m a local), and others offering various “stuff.” Photographers are plentiful, with decent equipment, finding subjects who want something better than selfies. And there are tourists, and there is color, especially at twilight.
As you can gather, I’m a senior citizen. I stay situationally aware. I am cautious, as I have been in any big city in the world.
So, for those of you who think of New York City and Times Square as a cesspool of crime and sin, well, that’s a shame. You are missing an awful lot.
I can include only 10 photos. There are a few more to follow.
David
