Sony RX10IV Question

Does anyone know of a menu setting, or some way, to view things on the LCD without the lens extending? It would be nice to be able to work through the menu and view pictures without the lens coming out. Thanks.

My wife has one. She says that, as long as the camera is on, the lens will extend.

I would retract it to 24mm so no matter what you do, next time your ready to shoot it will retrack to that . If you have it extended to say 600mm then when you go to look at your LCD it retracts back,, But when your done looking and wake camera it will extend to 600mm.

If you view photos on the screen long enough the lens will retract. There's a timeout.

You might want to PM member Gene51 for this and any other questions. Gene has a Sony RX10 mkIV and, as a professional photographer, has to know the functions for his professional needs. If there is a way to review the shots without the camera opening up, more that likely he will know.

I also have one and I do believe your wife is right so there is no way to view the menu without extending the lens.

There is no way to prevent the lens from extending when you switch the camera on. However there are two workarounds. Remove the card and insert it into a card reader attached to your smartphone, or use the power management to shorten the interval that returns the camera to power save mode. You can find this by going to Menu->Setup->Pwr Save Start Time and select the shortest time of 10 secs. After turning on the camera the lens will extend, then retract after 10 secs, and the review function will still be active.
