Using a Telephoto in Place of a Macro Lens

These shots are done with a 100-400L mk2 + 1.4x III at 560 mm.
A white Skipper butterfly just a bit over 1", A golden/tan Skipper just under 1" and a dried Milkweed pod about 1.5" that sort of looks like a little long legged goose.

Very good! I have that lens, and one stellar feature is it has a close working distance.

Nice! I don't have a macro lens...so will have to practice with my telephoto....another thing to add to my practice list :)

I did the same experiment recently with my Nikon 80-400. I was pleasantly surprised at the results. It helped me get good shots of butterflies that I normally can't get very close to.
