Sadly true and truly sad!
An owner's manual wouldn't show how to adjust valves if you could, because they would be inaccessible anyway. Trouble is, as you stated, it shows very little that could be considered useful information.

"An owner's manual wouldn't show how to adjust valves if you could"Maybe this one does, because you couldn't? LOL

Been there & done that on many vehicles. Even worked on a very few MGBs.
They're just avoiding lawsuits for not stating the obvious.

I would have thought "don't drink the battery acid"
is stating the obvious. LOL
And if it
is not stating the obvious (as you think it is) how does that avoid a lawsuits.
Perhaps you think "don't have a head on collision with a Ford Louisville" is not stating the obvious too,
and should be included in the "Owners Manual"... to "avoid lawsuits.
Did you do college? Do you have a degree? Is the IQ of a fence post considered a virtue
where you come from?

Manuals haven't changed. Owners have ascended another ultra high level of stupidity. Approximately 60,000 people die each year in motoring accidents. Our leaders have decided this number is acceptable as their response is a one-time "driving' exam and a life-time of renewals that defies logic. The auto makers have realized this an are about to announce on-line only manuals. No more cumbersome books for our drivers. We have become too stupid collectively to be able to read. But, we can.........................

I'm shaking my head in shear amazement at the magnitude of your pathetic attempt of self aggrandizement...
And the ignorance of your grossly false claim that an owners manual can not have Valve clearance instructions.
Sensational thread Jerry; the arse clowns are coming out of the woodwork.

Good example. I have manuals from the MG T series cars, and they have lots of mechanical information.
One line I always thought was funny: "Do not fill the gas tank until fuel appears in the filler neck."
Cars are not the only manuals that you can get online, Appliances have gone that way also. I recently purchased a gas convection double oven, it came with a quickie guide and set-up/installation, for an in-depth user guide I had to go to the MFG website and download the user manual by model number. They did not put the model and serial number on a sticker on one of the oven doors, instead they attached a metal flag to the back of the stove upper control panel that you have to rotate up to read the information.
